Ricky the Rock That Couldn’t Roll Activities
Get ready to rock! This week we’re rolling into an exciting theme for the Virtual Book Club for Kids that’s sure to spark curiosity, creativity, and hands-on fun: Rock Week. Our featured book is Ricky, the Rock That Couldn’t Roll by Mr. Jay—a story about finding belonging, embracing change, and discovering one’s place in the world (even if that place is a little unexpected).
Ricky, the Rock That Couldn’t Roll by Mr. Jay
As Ricky journeys through his rocky world, kids will be invited to explore rocks in all kinds of ways: touching them, painting them, sorting them, counting them, and even eating them (in a creative way!).
We’ll also include a read-aloud video of the book, and three joyful rock-themed songs to sing, dance, and giggle along with. And no Rock Week would be complete without a curated list of additional rock books for kids so your child can dive deeper into story-time and geology.
This weekly planner is designed to bring rich language, tactile learning, and joyful movement into your child’s world.
Let’s get ready to roll (or perhaps not roll, like Ricky) into a week full of wonder!
You can listen to a Read Aloud of Ricky, The Rock That Couldn’t Roll on YouTube.
